St. Vincent Dumbo Session

If I could have a band two artists would have to be members Kaki King and St.Vincent. I have this vision of playing with them live on stage, but secretly having my guitar turned down real low. This would prevent me from screwing up the performance. St.Vincent (stage name) also know as Annie Clark (vocalist/guitar goddess), is a 24 year old guitar connoisseur and multi-instrumentalist. Either you love her or you don't know of her. She plays as a solo artist as well as with the The Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens. Her pedal arsenal, rhythmic ability, screeching guitar arrangements, vocal range, and both experimental/eclectic style will leave you speechless and begging for more after a first listen from her latest album Marry Me.

The Dumbo Session is monumentally intoxicating. She came to Georgia in July and of course I missed her because I was stuck trying to recite unnecessary Spanish terms, but I bought the album, which is fantastic. Her voice is soulful and lingers with a melancholic bluesy aftertaste. Her compositions range anywhere from indie rock with a distorted edge to soft jazzy cadenced patterns. I love it. Even though I've never seen her live, I've heard she sounds better solo and these videos are proof. Fat distorted guitar riffs scream on Your Lips Are Red, the guitar effects on Paris is Burning resemble an organ, and These Days (cover) displays a more mellow side. Even though her melodies are a bit unconventional, she still remains appealing to the ear.
Buy the album and you won't be disappointed.
