Yo, I know what you're thinking...isn't it December? Why am I reading a review of a concert thats almost a month old? Don't worry I've got an acronym that will sum up all of your questions: CPT, also known as Colored People Time. I might be only ½ black, but I've got plenty of that sweet mocha delight to keep you satisfied. Moving on, the concert took place during one of the coldest nights of this season which is quite surprising since Atlanta is currently going through a heat wave (current temp 70ºF) while nearing the end of fall. Before, I review the concert let me give a little background of how I got the tickets. In short, I walked through the rain, was drenched (I looked like I took a shower with my on clothes, don't be fooled I wasn't a pretty sight), got to The Roxy to purchase the tickets to avoid any additional Ticketmaster charges, and the venue was closed. WTF?
As I stood outside, a women from behind the door said, "How can I help you?" I replied, "Can I please buy two Tegan & Sara tickets?" She saw how pathetic I looked, opened her window, and sold me the tickets...and even included a little plastic bag to shield them from the rain. That women was the nicest...thanks. Anyways, I'm not complaining at all in fact I was having fun getting rained on. People on the street we offering rides and of course I declined☺. Back to the show, the venue was packed due to a sold out show. Northern State was the opener and they were super energetic. In fact, if I could get just half of whatever they take on a daily I wouldn't need an extra hour in my day. Their music was reminiscent of old school Beastie Boys, with a new school B-Girl twist, decent guitar riffs, matching shirts promoting their latest infectious album, Can I keep this pen? (great advertising), and choreography. They were excellent. We sat in the balcony where the view was much better since my sis and I are vertically challenged.
Then came the twins. Its always interesting to see how well a band performs live and Tegan and Sara did not disappoint. Both new and old stuff was played. I had to miss an oldie and part of Knife Going In (it could have been Relief Next To Me...I can't remember), which sucked for me because I had to piss and the line was full of drunk girls. Are You ten Years Ago, Like O Like H, You Wouldn't Like Me, and Where Does the Good Go? were amazing just to name a few because everything was well played and tastefully delivered. The rest of the band seemed to really be enjoying themselves and added the extra expertise needed to switch between and play different instruments and included the occasional superb vocal.
Tegan and Sara were very charming and had a great sense of humor. Their comradery and dialog simply could not be ignored. Banter did not occur often but when supplied was hilarious and included childhood stories of Tegan hating summer camp, Sara being a smart ass, their family constantly moving, missing cats, and instances of them telling the audience that its not cool to talk throughout the show, which was also funny. Overall, the show was the shit. Sadly, this ends my three show concert series. Thank you for your time.
